WIAS invites applications for a

PhD student position (f/m/d)

(Ref. 23/27)

in the newly opened Weierstrass Group

“Multi-species Balance Laws”

(Head: Dr. K. Hopf) starting as soon as possible.

Field of work: Mathematical analysis and nonlinear partial differential equations.

The successful applicant will be expected to perform research in the above-mentioned field, with a focus on reaction-cross-diffusion systems or two-phase flow. The research will either be centered around wellposedness and qualitative behavior, or the derivation of singular limits and effective equations.

We are looking for: 

  • A motivated, outstanding student with a master’s degree in mathematics and a strong background in analysis and partial differential equations. Prior knowledge in nonlinear parabolic and/or hyperbolic equations is desirable.
  • The MSc degree should be completed or close to completion.

The appointment is limited to three years. The reduced work schedule is 29.25 hours per week, and the salary is according to the German TVoeD Bund scale.
